How does a Standard block differ from Lay Flat?

In short: a Standard block is convenient when your photobook contains many pages, individual photos and collages. Lay Flat is better suited to panoramas and large photos across a full spread.

Let’s start with the fact that our photobooks consist of a cover and an inner block. All our covers are hard and can feature a photo or be finished with fabric, eco-leather or acrylic. You choose all photobook options after selecting a template with the desired design. The main difference between the two types of photobook block is how the pages are attached to each other and to the cover.

Standard block

In this block, each sheet of the photobook is printed separately. The sheets are then gathered together and attached at the spine. The spine is about 1 cm deep, so part of an image close to the middle of the spread will be hidden in it. The image is digitally printed on both sides of the sheet and may show through the paper slightly.

• the pages are sewn together at the spine;
• we do not recommend placing important parts of a photo in the middle because part of the spread will disappear into the spine;
• the pages are flexible;
• minimum 26 pages, maximum 96.

Lay Flat block

In this block, the image is printed as one continuous two-page spread. The spreads are glued together back to back, while the first and last are attached directly to the cover. This makes the pages thicker, and the image in the middle of the spread does not disappear into the spine.

• the pages open to 180°;
• a photo can run across the middle, although the fold will still be visible;
• the pages are thick;
• minimum 24 pages, maximum 80 — or 46 with thick Satin PRO paper.

Be careful when choosing the options and creating your photobook layout. A Standard block is usually the better choice for a longer story with many images. If you want to show panoramas, group photos or wedding images across a full spread, consider Lay Flat.
