How to store photobooks?

How to properly store photo books?

Although our photo books look like books, they are produced using photo printing technology. Therefore, their storage is different from ordinary books from a bookstore. There are several factors that should be paid attention to.

Sunlight

Avoid direct sunlight. Photo books fade (lose their color) and dry out and can become deformed. It is better to store them in a wooden gift box or cardboard. They are designed specifically for optimal protection against light, dust and environmental factors. And if there is none, then it is better to choose a dark shelf and a bag for storing the photobook.

Temperature

Albums should not be kept where they can heat up. Let's say it straight: the option with a window sill is a bad idea. The best place where the temperature is 18°C +/- 2°C. Room temperature will be best for them. Do not store books in a container or plastic wrap, rather place them in a place where air can circulate freely.

Humidity

Photo books do not like changes in humidity and temperature: the books lie perfectly in the summer, but when the heating system starts, the humidity decreases and the air becomes dry. It is best when the humidity in the room is 50% +/- 10%. And if you do not have a hygrometer, then maintain comfortable humidity for your nose so that the mucous membrane does not dry out. Your nose is also a good indicator.

The opposite option occurs if you bring a fresh book from the cold street (the book outside gets moisture from the air) - do not rush to open it at home, in the heat. It is better to put it closed in a cool room for 4-5 hours so that it adapts.

Under such circumstances, the binding may bend or the pages may become wavy. And if the photobook has already suffered such a fate, it is not critical. Just put it under a home-made "press" - several heavy books.

Placement

Store photo books horizontally (one on top of the other) on a shelf or in a closet. Due to the weight of the thick pages, when stored incorrectly, the book will load the binding and deform.

Disclosure

When viewing, always support the cover by placing the back of the photo book on a clean surface. Never hold a photo book by only one half of the cover, because under the weight of the album, the binding may not withstand and tear.

Care

Photo books with laminated pages are the best to care for, because they are protected by a thin film, and dirt can be easily wiped off with a damp cloth. Of the papers, these are: magazine binding - glossy paper; Lay Flat binding - Satin and Glossy paper. Our covers are all laminated - both matte and glossy. Only matte ones are sensitive to greasy stains, so be more careful with them.
